Is Hiring a Website Copywriter Right for You?
Alright friend… let’s be honest. Deciding whether to hire a website copywriter can be a tough choice. Because, how do you even know if it’s right for you and your current situation? How do you know if it’s financially worth the investment? And what the benefits will be?
Why should you hire someone to write your website copy for you instead of just writing it yourself?
All of these are completely valid questions and it’s important to know the answers to them before you invest time and money (especially in today’s crap economy).
So, I’m here to help!
In today’s article I’m going to break down the reasons why working with a website copywriter is extremely beneficial and how to know if it is in fact the right choice for you and your business.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
First things first…
Do YOU need to hire a website copywriter?
Well, let’s see, tell me if you can relate to any of this…
→ You’ve tried writing your own website copy multiple times, and each time it ends in tears and frustration. Maybe you even like writing, but when it comes to writing about yourself, your business, and your offer it feels like pulling teeth.
→ You know how valuable your offer is, but you don’t know how to properly communicate that value in your website copy to convince your target audience. And maybe you’re not even 100% sure what your audience wants/needs to hear in order to take action.
→ You know you have things that set you apart, but you’re not sure how to express it in your website copy in a way that makes you stand out among your competition.
→ You’re pretty sure you know what your brand persona is, but you can’t seem to properly reflect it in your copy.
→ Maybe your organic website traffic is low, it’s hardly attracting your target audience, so you’ve been relying on word of mouth alone. But you don’t fully understand SEO and how to implement it into your website copy to solve that issue.
→ When your target audience *does* arrive on your website, they’re quickly X’ing out and not moving forward with your offer.
→ Or maybe you simply HATE writing, and don’t know the first thing about writing *effective* website copy. But you know you need website copy that doesn’t suck (to put it bluntly). Because you know how important a website is when it comes to growing your business.
→ And at the end of the day all you want is for your website to authentically represent you and your business, make you stand out among your competition, attract your dream clients/customers, and most importantly SELL! You want your website to work for you and help grow your business, bringing you long-term success.
If you can relate to any of that, you need a website copywriter!
But what exactly are all the benefits of working with one? Is it truly worth it?
And how do you go about finding the right website copywriter for YOU?
Let’s find out… we’ll start with the benefits.
Attract more of your *ideal* clients, make more sales, and grow your business.
Your website is the home of your business and it’s typically where your first impression begins. It’s where most of your target audience will go to decide if you’re the right choice for them or not.
But the design of your website (though it’s important) isn’t what keeps your audience engaged and convinced to work with you. Your website copy is what holds all the power.
And a website copywriter knows exactly how to write in such a way that’s designed to sell without sounding ‘salesy’… because nobody likes ‘salesy’ talk.
They know the correct way to structure website copy so that it engages and emotionally resonates with your target audience, compelling them to take action.
They write copy that is backed by strategy, market research, and SEO. Copy that’s created to work as your biggest sales weapon.
They do this by writing website copy that:
→ Is tailored to your needs and goals.
→ Authentically reflects your one-of-a-kind brand persona. Staying true to who you are and what you’re all about. Making you stand out among your competition and attract like-minded clients that click with YOU.
→ Speaks to the wants, needs, and interests or your target audience. Hooking them in with headlines that instantly spark their interest and confirm they’re in the right place.
→ Keeps your audience continually engaged with copy that emotionally resonates with their current situation, struggles, problems, dreams, and desires.
→ Properly communicates the value of your offer (and you) and why you’re not just an option, but the *one* and *only* option for them. Showing why you’re the solution to their problems and why you’re the right choice rather than your top competitors.
→ Is rich in SEO (search engine optimization). Keeping your copy keyword-rich so that it will help your website rank higher in search results, attract your target audience, and increase your organic website traffic.
You will receive a great ROI (return on investment).
Simply put, yes, it’s worth investing in a *talented* website copywriter. Because you will receive a great ROI (return on investment) due to the reasons above.
Working with a website copywriter can sometimes be a big investment, depending on what they charge and the amount of work you’re looking to have them do.
But your website will be set up for long-term success. It will continue to attract your audience, increase your sales, and grow your business.
No more feeling a lack of confidence when it comes to your website copy.
No more attracting clients that aren’t the *ideal* clients you want to work with.
No more of your target audience finding your website and X’ing out seconds after arriving, due to poor copy that loses their interest.
No more tears and frustration from rewriting your website copy over and over, and hating it, or wondering why it’s not working for you.
So, as long as you can afford it and find the right website copywriter for you and your needs, that investment will pay for itself many times over.
Speaking of that, let’s get into the next thing…
Finding the right website copywriter for YOU.
There are many talented website copywriters out there, and an endless amount to pick from, it can feel overwhelming. So, how do you go about finding the right one for you?
Well, for starters, the best way to find a website copywriter isn’t going to be on sites like Fiverr or Upwork. Though you can still give it a try if you’d like, but I recommend against it.
Because if you want to find a truly talented website copywriter that delivers high-quality work and is worth the investment, you should be looking at their website.
You should be Googling things like “website copywriter” or “website copywriting services”.
Then begin clicking on some of the first page results. If you’re not feeling the first page results, go onto the next page, and keep browsing until you find the website copywriter that’s right for you.
And I’d also recommend going on Instagram to look for website copywriters as well.
There are endless amounts of talented website copywriters on Instagram!
All you need to do is go to the ‘search’ icon and type in “#websitecopywriters” or “#websitecopywritingservices”.
Then have fun browsing and stalking their pages! Most of them will have their website URL linked in their bio as well!
Also… when browsing through their website, there’s a few things you should be thinking about and looking for to determine if they’re a good match for you.
For example…
Think about your budget.
Every website copywriter is going to charge differently depending on their level of experience, expertise, and the services they offer.
Pricing can range anywhere from $800 to $10,000 for a full website. Obviously, the more website pages you need copy for the more expensive it’s going to be. But typically getting at least your 3 main website pages done (Home, About, Product/Service) is a great place to start.
As a website copywriter myself, I personally try to keep my prices more affordable than most. Because things are hard in today’s crazy expensive world. For example, my website copywriting services include writing copy for your 3 main website pages for $1,500.
Things that will usually determine how expensive a website copywriter is are things like-
→ If they’re proficient in SEO and conversion copy.
→ If their website copy services include strategy, market research, an in-depth brand persona/target audience questionnaire. All for the purpose of better website copy and better results.
→ If they specialize in writing website copy for a specific niche or not.
→ If they’re sending you your copy in a wireframe (which takes website design into consideration) or a word doc instead.
→ What their level of experience is. If they have 1 year, 5 years, or 20 years of experience writing website copy.
Finding a website copywriter that falls within your budget is the first thing you should ensure. Because there’s no need to waste your time or theirs if you can’t afford their services.
Are the two of you a good match?
You don’t just want to work with any website copywriter. So you need to take into consideration what you are and what you need. For example…
Are you a small or large business owner? Creative entrepreneur? Or Freelancer?
What do you offer? Do you sell products? Or services?
Are you looking for a website copywriter who is specialized in writing copy for only one specific niche (whatever your niche is)? Or does that not matter as long as they’re good at what they do?
Do you only need 1 page of website copy? Or 3 pages of website copy? Or do you need 7 pages of website copy?
Or do you need copy for a long-form sales page instead?
Do you even need brand-new website copy? Or do you simply need help improving your current website copy for better results? Which in that case would be considered a website copy audit.
Do you want a website copywriter that specializes in writing blog content as well?
Finding a website copywriter that checks all your boxes and offers exactly what you need is extremely important.
Make sure you’re a match!
Do you click with them as a person?
Now of course this doesn’t determine how good a website copywriter is. But this can greatly affect your overall experience and the flow of working together.
You can hire a website copywriter that does amazing work, but you don’t vibe with them as a person.
This matters because when you choose to work with a website copywriter, the two of you will be in constant communication before, during, and after the project is complete.
From the first discovery call, to the kick-off call, to the review call, and not to mention the communication (probably via email) during the project process.
Plus, if you click with your website copywriter and the two of you enjoy working together, it doesn’t have to be a one and done type of situation. You can work with them long-term for more than just website copy. All for the purpose of continually growing and benefiting your business.
For example, you can set up a situation where your website copywriter writes a new blog article for you once, twice, or how ever many times a month.
Or you could have them write your weekly or monthly email newsletter.
Or you can simply reach out to them with your copy needs whenever they arise.
Maybe you want them to write the copy for a new freebie you just thought up.
Or copy for a new ebook you want to sell.
Or maybe you decided you want to add a new page to your website which needs new copy of course.
As a business owner or entrepreneur, having a talented, trustworthy, reliable copywriter in your corner is an incredibly valuable thing!
And when you’re browsing their website, it should be very easy to get a feel for their brand persona (or their overall personality). Especially when you check out their About page. Which I highly recommend doing.
Get to know who they are as a person, what they value, how they talk, what their sense of humor is like, etc.
Ask yourself who you would love to work with!
Do you want that person to be serious and professional? Or down to earth and goofy?
Do you click better with someone who is introverted? Or extroverted? Or someone who falls somewhere in between?
Do you appreciate a bold and blunt personality type? Or do you vibe better with a gentle and soft personality type?
Keep these things in mind.
When you’re reading through their website, think about how it makes you feel. Do you find yourself laughing and nodding along with the things they say?
Do you feel yourself resonating with the stories they tell or the way they view the world?
Do you feel like they get you?
Choose the website copywriter that *you* vibe with! Because it should be a fun, laid back experience that you enjoy, with a person you enjoy.

Your website copy should always come before your design. Because your copy is what defines the overall vibe, messaging, and structure of your website.
