What’s the Advantage of Blogging for Small Business Owners? – With Tips & Tricks

A woman sitting with a coffee and an open laptop that reads 'BLOG' on the screen.

So, you’re debating whether or not to start a blog for your small business, right?

Asking yourself things like:

“What’s the advantage of blogging?”

“Is blogging still even a thing in 2025? Where the world has been overtaken by instagram reels and tik-tok?”

“Or did we leave blogging behind in the year 2000 along with MySpace and chat rooms?”

Well, I'm here to ensure you that blogging is still *very* much a thing, and *very* important!

Whether you’re a creative entrepreneur, small business owner, freelancer, etc., having an active blog on your website is huge in terms of your growth and long-term success.

If you love to write, having a blog is perfect!

If you love attracting more of your dream clients and making more sales, having a blog is (dare I say) perfect!

Even if you hate writing and would rather do literally anything else in the world… but you want the benefits that come from blogging… and you’ll do everything you can to get your business *booming*.

Don't worry, there's a solution for that.

In this article I’m going to break down all the advantages of blogging, why it’s still profitable, and why it’s *highly* important.

I’ll even share with you some helpful tips on how to get the best results from your blog articles and how to turn each one into a new sales opportunity.

Along with how to still reap all the benefits of blogging even if you HATE writing (and no, it’s not AI)!

Oh, and not to mention, I’ve even got a juicy little freebie to share with ya at the end!

Ya know, if you’re a big fan of all things free and DIY golden nuggets (I get it friend, because same).

Alright, let’s jump right into it, shall we?

So, what’s the advantage of blogging for small business owners?

Well…

1. Increase your organic website traffic.

So, for one, the stats show that in 2025 83% of internet user still read blogs… and small businesses that blog experience 126% more lead growth and website traffic compared to those that don’t blog!

Which is crazy right!?

But why is that you might ask?

Well, the more SEO-friendly content you have on your website means search engines (like Google) are going to rank your site and blog articles *that much higher* in search results.

And your target audience is going to find you *that much easier*.

The more informative content and SEO keywords you have on your website, the more you will increase the odds of your dream clients finding your blog article… continuing to your website… and inquiring about your products or services.

I like to say that having an active blog, is like building multiple different pathways for your dream clients to enter from, all of which lead to your website.

But remember, if you want your blog articles to show up on page one of Google they have to be done the right way.

In terms of your SEO, as well as the structure and quality of how your content is written.

If your articles are poorly written, search engines will take note of that.

They will see that your page visitors are not sticking around and finding your content useful, therefore decreasing your articles ranking.

So, cut the fluff, make your content skimmable/easy to read, and write informative articles that provide value to your readers.

2. Get more clients & make more sales.

As you now know, blogging is going to increase your organic website traffic and attract more of your dream clients.

So each article you write is an opportunity to make a new sale or gain a new client.

When it makes sense, you should find a way to reference your own products or services, linking to your websites homepage, service page, etc.

Typically, you can always do this in your conclusion at the end, like you’ll see I did in this article.

Do this when it naturally makes sense and holds the potential to provide value to your readers.

And don't think you're being annoying by doing this!

Because the odds are, someone who's reading your blog article is at least somewhat interested in your niche and the products/services you offer.

So you're really doing them a favor.

And your blog articles will give your readers a taste of who you are, what you’re selling, and how educated you are in your field.

So never miss a valuable opportunity to give yourself a shout-out, ‘toot your own horn’, and give a clear call to action (CTA).

3. Build brand authority & trust with your target audience.

By writing high-quality blog articles that are informative, helpful, and spot-on, you’ll stand out in your industry.

Your peers and clients will view you as knowledgeable and trustworthy.

Right off the bat you're demonstrating things like your skills, knowledge, quality of work, and dedication.

You're basically shouting-

"I'm a professional and I know what the heck I'm talking about!".

Your potential clients will trust your brand and choose you over those who don’t demonstrate those things (a.k.a. those who don’t have a blog).

Plus, as your peers begin to view you as an industry leader, you might very well become their go-to source, especially when it comes to linking your articles in their own content.

And I can't stress this enough friend...

You don't want to be seen as that person or business among your competition, that *isn't* going the extra mile...

Or *isn't* showing off your skills and dedication...

Or *doesn't* care to over deliver and extend helpful advice and information.

No…

Be that person/business that's known for standing out!

For really caring about their audience.

For always pumping out valuable and helpful content.

For being the perfect mix between entertaining and educating.

And to be honest, it's not as hard as you think to stand out.

Because (I say this respectfully) not all of your competition is *good* competition.

Not everyone in your niche or industry is that great.

There's more people than you think that *aren't* going the extra mile and *are* doing the bare minimum.

Those are the people that don't grow and don't reach their goals and long-term success.

But YOU have goals... you're not satisfied with staying stuck, and never growing.

Otherwise... you wouldn't be here reading this article, now would you?

4. Grow your email list and clientele.

Having an email list for your audience to subscribe to, is a great way to grow your business.

So, if you don’t already have one, blogging gives you a great reason to start one!

Even if you do already have one, a blog is a great way to grow your email list, gain new clients, and grow your business to the next level.

By starting a blog, you can update your subscribers every time you publish a new article.

Give them a sneak peak of what they can expect in it.

Entice them with a great email snippet and article headline, so they know there’s valuable information inside.

Maybe even add some extra juicy tips and information in your emails. Making your subscribers more inclined to sign up and open them each time.

Show them you care and value them. Show them you want to genuinely help by giving them useful advice and information.

Because all of that will give your target audience great insight into what working with you (or purchasing from you) will be like.

Making them much more inclined to move forward with your offer.

This is a great way to nurture your client relationships as well.

Your emails and blog articles may very well be the deciding factor for potential clients/customers that are on the fence about purchasing your products or services.

On the other hand, this can also create repeat customers for your business. Keeping your brand front of mind and convenient for them to come back to.

5. Get ahead of your *top* competitors.

As you know, competition is everywhere... and every successful business owner and entrepreneur is going to already have a blog on their website (notice I said successful).

But when it comes to writing your blog articles, it's a great opportunity to stand out and demonstrate why you're better than your top competitors.

By finding a way to one-up your competition.

Make your articles unique and stand out in some way.

You can even use your top competitors blog articles as inspiration, but NEVER copy them.

Maybe you want to write about the same topic they did, which is fine, if you find a way to change it up and make it better.

Do research so you can add even more (or better) valuable information, and cite all your sources.

NEVER make your competition look better than you by getting lazy with your own articles!

Also, show your audience who you are as a person, by filling each article with your one-of-a-kind brand persona/personality.

Leave your mark on them.

Make yourself memorable in the mind of your readers.

Oh and one other thing…

Important information coming your way in 3...2...1...

You want your dream clients to click with *you*.

To match *your* energy.

To appreciate *your* vibe, and what makes you, YOU.

You don't want to work with clients who prefer working with your competition (let's call her Sally), because Sally is calm, cool, collected, and elegant.

While you on the other hand are goofy, fun, laid back, and bold.

Just because Sally is highly successful, and has landed hundreds of clients or made thousands of sales, doesn't mean you need to mirror her unique style.

Being unapologetically you -while also being kick-ass at what you do and offer- is what's going to make you wildly successful and fall deeper in love with what you do.

Now, I promised those of you who HATE writing, that I would share the solution to your problems...

So, that's what I'm going to do!

I know some of you out there can't think of anything worse than plopping down in front of your laptop, while trying to brainstorm, write, and edit for hours each week (while also having so many other things on your to-do list).

Not to mention taking the time to learn how to write high-quality blog articles that will actually benefit your business.

Which includes learning SEO, investing in and learning how to us an online SEO tool to find the right keywords, and so on.

I get it, it's not for everyone. So where does the solution come from!?

Well, it comes in the form of a copywriter (*cough, cough* giving myself a shameless shout-out here).

Okay yes... ya caught me officer... I am indeed a copywriter myself.

It's my job to sit down, write, and edit for hours on end… plus know the ins and outs of SEO and blogging.

Yes, it pays the bills, but I also LOVE to write.

It's my passion, and I like to think i'm pretty good at it as well (if you disagree, that's okay, but ya can't stop me).

But this section isn't for me to yap about myself, saying, "hey, choose me as your copywriter, let me tell you why you should!".

Because you can and *should* choose to work with a copywriter that you resonate and click with.

And there's lots of great ones out there. It's all about finding the right one for you, your needs, and your budget.

Regardless, hiring a copywriter may be exactly what you need if you want to reap all the benefits that comes from blogging, without having to write them yourself.

All it takes is doing some research and finding the right copywriter for you.

Then, you can check the dreaded task of writing off your to-do list, and let your copywriter do all the heavy lifting.

‘What’s the Advantage of Blogging for Small Business Owners?’ Conclusion…

Bottom line… having a blog is still very relevant and important, today more than ever.

Not to mention, it can do wonders for the success of your business (when done right of course).

I personally believe having a blog is necessary for your long-term success.

And the stats would 100% agree with me.

However, sometimes finding the passion, skills, or time to consistently write new, high-quality, SEO-friendly articles can be tough. I get it.

Regardless though, I highly suggest starting a blog page for your website, even if that means investing in a skilled copywriter to write them for you.

Trust me, it’ll be worth it.

‘What’s the Advantage of Blogging for Small Business Owners?’ FAQ:

Can you make money blogging?

Yes you can! Here’s a few different ways you can make money blogging:

  • When you start a blog as a small business owner or entrepreneur, it’s a great way to advertise your own products or services, increase your organic website traffic, attract your target audience, and make more sales!

  • You can also make money when you pair blogging with affiliate marketing. For example, you can sign up to become an affiliate member for a product or service you love and use. Then write a blog article about it using your affiliate link. When someone purchases that product via your link, you receive a small commision for it.

  • You can even make money when you blog on platforms like ‘Medium’ for instants. If you become a member of Medium (which is only $5 a month), you have the potential to make money every month depending on the amount of views and reads your articles receive.

How often should I blog for my business?

For the best results, writing a new blog article at least once a week (or 4 per month) is ideal. However, if that isn’t realistic for you, writing a new blog article once or twice a month is still better than nothing!
